July 29, 2005 First release of the Plant Structure Development Stages Ontology! A set of controlled vocabulary terms describing developmental stages of organs and organ systems of a 'generic' flowering plant is now available. The Eighth Annual Bio-Ontologies Meeting at the ISMB 2005, Detroit, MI, June 24. The XVII International Botanical Congress, Vienna, Austria, July 17-23. April 28, 2005 First release of the Plant Growth Stages Ontology! A set of controlled vocabulary terms describing the whole plant growth stages of a 'generic' flowering plant is now available. This release encompasses Arabidopsis, soybean, maize, rice and Triticeae. Over 400 gene annotations to the new terms are also added to the POC database. January 18, 2005 Second annual Plant Ontology Consortium meeting will take place at the Plant and Animal Genomes XIII Conference, San Diego, CA. View the Agenda January 17, 2005 An NSF sponsored Training Workshop, Development and Implemention of Ontologies in the Database will be held on Monday, Jan 17 (12:50-3:00 pm), at the PAG XIII Conference, San Diego, CA (Royal Palm Salon 1, 2 & 3). Dec 16, 2004 Gene annotations for Arabidopsis, rice and maize associated to the Plant Structure Ontology terms are now available. Over 3,000 gene annotations from three species-specific databases, TAIR, Gramene and MaizeGDB, can now be queried and retrieved using our ontology browser, the Plant Ontology AmiGO. July 23, 2004 The Plant Structure Ontology is now available at the POC web site! This ontology is the first step in our effort to integrate existing species-specific vocabularies into unified ontology of flowering plants. July 10, 2004 First Plant Ontology Workshop will take place at the Plant Biology 2004, Lake Buena Vista, FL, on Tuesday, July 27, 12:30-2:00 pm (Yucatan 1-3). June 15, 2004 Monsanto has contributed their controlled vocabularies for Arabidopsis and maize anatomy and developmental stages to POC. May 15, 2004 Plant ontology will be presented at the upcoming meetings: Plant Biology 2004, July 24 - 28 (abstract # 864). Botany 2004, July 31 - August 5 (abstract #347 and #351). March 05, 2004 Pioneer Hi-Bred has contributed their controlled vocabulary for maize anatomy to POC. The vocabulary can be viewed/downloaded from the POC CVS repository. January 9-14 2004 POC is announced at 2004 Plant and Animal Genomes XII Conference. January 11 2004 First consortium meeting at 2004 Plant and Animal Genomes XII Conference January 9 2004 POC web site goes live. December 8-9 2003 First POC developers meeting at Univ. of Missouri, St. Louis. Oct 2003 The project received a $1,672,411 NSF plant genome reserach award #0321666 for three years (2003-2006).
